Well, track training helped me recover faster after the first run. Jake and my first mi. with 4 others athletes started off at a speedy 0:4:54 pace. Ya.. So, I decided to taper off just a wee bit. I soon passed 9 athletes on the bike, but it just wasn't good enough. Jake caught me at mi 1.5 on the second run. Then some 50 y.o. dude past me with ten feet to go to steal my 6Th place. Great job for him. We sprinted the last 100m. He first passed me then, I passed him then, he pased me then I almost threw up. (I guess I need to keep training hard on the track) The bike was crazy. Super flat, lots of sharp turns, and a boat load of runners and non-participating cyclist on half the bike course (mostly in the last 5 mi.). Oh ya, dodging on coming traffic on the park road was nerve racking as well. Fun, but scary! There were hardly any straight-aways to stay at 28-31 mph. My pedals scraped the street once. All in all it was a very fast race with no option pace your self. If I do it again, I’ll be on my crit bike.
