Elite Racing will team up with us for starting a charity training program for RNR San Antonio. We will be listed on their website and TriSoler's Charity Training will one of only two local training programs on the RocknRoll Marathon/Half Marathon website. As of yesterday, we didn't have a charity but I just go off the phone with Dr. Adelita Cantu of the UTHSC nursing program. (I am on the committee for Healthy Choices for Kids which is a non-profit 501(c)3 program that works with the Good Samaritan Center in the WestSide.) This is program created by the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics and the School of Nursing and it pairs medical and nursing students with children at the Good Samaritan Center on San Antonio’s West Side. The medical and nursing students developed a curriculum to teach and model healthy living practices to the middle-school students during a summer day camp. I helped create the curriculum last year with the nursing students and this year we want to add multi-sport to the curriculum. This is a great way for the club members to work one-on-one with kids or in a group setting and talk about running, cycling, swimming, etc. If we choose this non-profit then the funds we raise for them will go toward running shoes and eventually a bike program. I have a committee meeting with them on Monday and I told them that the triclub is interested in helping. I really think this is a great opportunity for the club. Last year, Jake Broyles did a talk for them and he took his tri bike and the kids had never seen a tri bike before. They were stoked! I really feel that we can make a difference here. So, I am submitting my request to select this program as a benefactor for our charity work. EMAIL VOTE? YAY or NAY |
